Nicole Veilleux – Studio Facilitator

A deeply personal poem that Mike has the courage to share with the greater community:

The Incident
I say it to all friends I get close too…
At school I was at…
During English….
We were doing my favorite class….
Don’t feel dizzy….
I blacked out…
Why I don’t know…
No one really knows…
They called it a disorder….
I didn’t care what was wrong with me…
Why do I feel weak…
Hello sis lets play….
Why did I wake up in the evening…
Why is mom scared…
Why is dad worried…
It all happened when I was 10….
Strange things I see…
Are they ghosts!
Mom says its ok…
Its just my brain pulling tricks on me ….
What’s that noise mom?
What noise mike?
I’m not crazy!
Why am I in a hospital mom!
Did I do something wrong?
I will be a good boy!
My mom cries…
I refuse to make crafts…
I want to go home…
I want to leave…
I don’t want doctors looking at me like I am a freak…
I want my mom that knows who I am…
She knows who I am right?
I love her anyway….
She visits with daddy and sis every weekend…
They didn’t leave me alone to die….
They are kids worse then me….
They are dying…
I’m alive….
I have a future….
But what kind of future?
This happened because of the incident….
At age 10….
I got angry I got sad….
Is it because of pills…
Or because I’m drifting into madness
