Gateway Arts is an internationally acclaimed studio art center for adults with disabilities.
Gateway Arts provides professional individualized career development for more than 100 adult artists with disabilities. Artists create work and master new processes with the encouragement and support of a professional staff of artists. They work in professional studios and exhibit in an onsite gallery. In addition, artists receive representation and a 50% commission on original art sales in our retail and online store.
Our studios are open and dynamic.
Artists at Gateway develop skills in various mediums. Traditional two dimensional fine art mediums such as drawing and painting are joined by graphic design and cartooning. Fiber arts, mixed media sculpture, ceramic hand-building and wheel throwing, jewelry making, and weaving are popular. Additionally, artists explore expression through creative writing for publication, and production in theater, music, and film making.
Each artist engages in the development of their career. With the mentor-ship of staff, artists choose their mediums and develop products. Each artist works towards their individual goal; to be famous, try new things, or to earn income by selling products.
Gateway is a leader in the field of arts-based services and career development.
As such, Gateway realizes our commitment to the growth and evolution of programming to meet the specific needs of emerging populations. A recent example is our newest program, Bridging the Spectrum. Established in 2017, the program meets the needs of an emerging population of artists with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Bridging the Spectrum expands opportunities for artists to work digitally, offering studios focused in new media, animation, and digital drawing.
