D.L. Polonsky

D.L. Polonsky was born in 1960, and has worked in Gateway’s Studio A program since 2014.

Polonsky’s artwork is halfway between cartooning and realism, often featuring celebrity and political figures in surreal fantasy scenes. Polonsky’s approach is deliberate; he rotates his surface medium, thereby approaching figures from unusual, almost “upside down” angles, giving his figures a distinctly different look.

Polonsky’s work has been exhibited at The Gateway Gallery.

I don’t think art has to have any meaning or purpose to it, other than to give the viewer a feeling. Sometimes life doesn’t seem to have any particular meaning or purpose to it. I think anything that’s in the world is appropriate subject matter for artwork and, like many artists, I hate censorship. The only aesthetic rule, I think, that artists should follow, is have some consistency to your style. At least make it less random than life seems to be.
