S.C. Maher

S.C. Maher was born and raised in Arlington MA, and he still resides there today.

Maher holds a BA in television production with a minor in fine arts. In school, Maher focused on drawing and photography. He began drawing a series of penguin drawings, called the Guins, in 2010 when he started to incorporate them into advertising signs for the farm stand he worked at, showing the penguin characters in a variety of entertaining scenes. Since then, the series has grown tremendously, and the Guins images have been reproduced on t-shirts, cards, tote bags, & aprons. In addition to creating drawings and paintings of the Guins, Maher also enjoys creating soft sculptures using both sewing and felting techniques.

Maher’s work has been exhibited at the Gateway Gallery.

I draw The Guins to show the humor in everyday situations. My art is meant for amusement. The Guins help me see the lighter side of things in life, and I use The Guins to share this humor with others. My original pieces are made with ink and colored pencils on paper. I then use these images to create a variety of products to make sharing the fun more practical and useful in everyday life. I create these products in the hopes that my images can reach a wider audience and benefit as many people as possible.
