Sean Maher

Sean Maher was born and raised in Arlington MA, and he still resides there today.

Maher holds a BA in television production with a minor in fine arts. In school, Maher focused on drawing and photography. He began drawing a series of penguin drawings, called the Guins, in 2010 when he started to incorporate them into advertising signs for the farm stand he worked at, showing the penguin characters in a variety of entertaining scenes. Since then, the series has grown tremendously, and the Guins images have been reproduced on t-shirts, cards, tote bags, & aprons. In addition to creating drawings and paintings of the Guins, Maher also enjoys creating soft sculptures using both sewing and felting techniques.

Maher’s work has been exhibited at the Gateway Gallery.

"I draw The Guins to show the humor in everyday situations. My art is meant for amusement. The Guins help me see the lighter side of things in life, and I use The Guins to share this humor with others. My original pieces are made with ink and colored pencils on paper. I then use these images to create a variety of products to make sharing the fun more practical and useful in everyday life. I create these products in the hopes that my images can reach a wider audience and benefit as many people as possible."
