The Gateway Gallery is proud to present The World Is Flat. This exhibition explores and showcases works through which Gateway Artists shape worlds grounded in fidelity to their own beliefs.
To describe his curatorial inspiration for the work, Studio A Facilitator and Assistant Gallery Director Gary Batty recalls several historical and cultural frames of reference. Samuel Shenton, who founded the International Flat Earth Research Society in 1956, was shown images taken from space depicting the Earth as a sphere; he responded “It is easy to see how a photograph like that could fool an untrained eye”. The sincerity of such a statement, and the beauty and freedom with which Shenton responded in earnest are present in the works of this exhibition. Through their artwork, viewers will look into the minds of artists who believe what they believe, and interpret the world as their own.
Join us for the Opening Reception to experience and engage with the remarkable work in “The World Is Flat.” The reception will be held on Friday, September 15th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Enjoy the jazz musings of the Ben Scheindlin Trio, complimentary sweet treats provided by Edible Arrangements, wine, and a Starbucks coffee tasting.
