Gateway Arts joins the global #GivingTuesday Movement

RS_headphonesGateway Arts has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.

Occurring this year on December 1, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

Gateway Arts is calling on the local community to show support of careers in art for people with disabilities by purchasing artwork, posting an #UnSelfie, or making a donation of $15.04 the cost of headphones, or $30.32 the cost of an am/fm radio.  Gateway Arts will use donations received on #GivingTuesday for the purchase of personal am/fm radios and headphones for use by artists in the studio. Working in an open studio setting can bring many distractions between noise and physical movement.  Personal radios with headphones permit artists to control their sensory input and focus with minimized distractions.

Development Manager Hannah Hoffman says, “Donations allow Gateway Arts to purchase necessary adaptive materials for studio artists not covered by government funding. It is the little things, like radios to stay focused, that mean so much to Gateway and we couldn’t have them without the generosity of our community.”

The #UNSelfie is a way to show how and why you support Gateway Arts.  Take a selfie featuring your favorite piece of Gateway art. Post the photo to Gateway Arts’ Facebook Page using the hashtags #UNseflie and #GotItAtGateway.
