Join Gateway Arts for a lively reception highlighting the work of Gateway artists who draw inspiration from popular media. What these artists recognize as art, can be found in video games, animated films, graphic novels and comics.
“Each new generation of artists builds upon the last. This is especially true in Western art where freedom of expression allowed enormous changes to the face of mainstream fine art. In the 20th century, art movements traveled from Impressionism to Post-Impressionism to Abstract-Expressionism. In the 1960s the art world was shocked by Pop Art, which took its inspiration from commercial art and advertising. Now, the popular arts and fine arts seem conjoined, each gathering inspiration from the other,” says Stephen DeFronzo, Gateway Arts Curator and Artistic Director.
The public reception will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Complimentary burritos from Anna’s Taqueria, beer, and live music by Littlefoot will be provided. To view the exhibition, please visit the Gateway Arts Gallery at 62 Harvard Street, 2nd Floor in Brookline, MA between September 1 and November 7, 2015.
