Longtime Jamaica Plain resident, Joe Howe was born in Massachusetts in 1930. Howe’s expressive verbal communication is minimal, but he is found weaving scarves and hats on a circle loom. Recently he has revisited sculpting in wood and clay. Howe’s extensive portfolio includes many drawings and enigmatic, seemingly abstract wooden and ceramic sculptures, patiently worked, painted and varnished.

Howe’s work has been exhibited at the Gateway Gallery in Brookline, the Lincoln Gallery in Chestnut Hill, and the Mall at Chestnut Hill, and the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton. In 1997, he had a sell out solo exhibition at the Centre Street Cafe in Jamaica Plain.
